- Dear students of Grade X1
- Congratulations to all candidates in the presidential campaign. The students have selected our Student Leadership Team of Shivaan, Radhika and Anmol but there will lots of opportunities for the other 5 candidates to particiapte in Student Action Groups working with the Excom Officers.
- The elections will be held in English class on Monday and Tuesday. Our Principal, Mr Gardner will announce the results after school on Tuesday.
- I have not produced detailed job descriptions for the EXCOM as I think the titles are largely self-explanatory. I have suggested that Excom will meet with me and Mr Navros lunchtime on Wednesday and begin the process of writing their own more detailed job descriptions and short constitution or charter. We will also set a list of targets and goals, debate them where necessary, build consensus and then Excom will meet with the Principal and Teacher Mentors by March 1st latest with an action plan.
- Excom will organise the elections for Class Reps for Grades 8/9/10 next week but Grade 10 students will not be asked to spend too much time on events until August.
- Excom will meet as a club in club time in the fourth quarter. I have asked Mr Navros to join me as teacher-mentor during that time to work with the Student Council.
- Workload: it is expected that each Excom officer will lead a Student Action Group of committed students who will work as a team around their special area of responsibility.
- Fine-tuning: any new project needs to be fine-tuned as the structure takes shapes. The teacher mentors will work with the student teams to define roles, initiate projects and support students as we launch the process in our school community. By the time our next elections take place in December, we should have a smooth system of student representation, which is running like a train on a railway line. Right now, we are building the train, laying the tracks and setting out the road map for our various destinations. The work we do now will create a strong foundation for short and long term success.
