From this video we get to learn a lot about the rich cultural heritage of India. We get to learn about Ayurveda, Steel, the origin of 'Zero', Cotton, Astronomy, etc. Its a very interesting and educational video. (y)
ReplyDeleteIt is extraordinary how ancient Indian scientists knew so much about subjects such as mathematics and astronomy. Jantar Mantar is a prime example. Very educational video...
ReplyDeleteThank you Simran and Arjun for your feedback
ReplyDeleteThis video illustrates the several ancient techniques and vital contributions India has made to science and technology. Although it's sad to see these contributions have gone largely unnoticed over time. It's an extremely informative and enlightening video!
ReplyDeleteThese days when children think about India as their country, a lot of complaints usually follow. Our opinions are usually our parents opinions or our families and we don't always know why we think those things. I think it's alright to criticise because India has a lot of problems but it's still a great country and we keep forgetting that. There are a lot of great things about India that we don't know and it's good that we're reminded that there are lots of things to be really proud of our country for and so I like this video.
ReplyDeleteThis video on ancient India really makes us question how we know what we know and how knowledge is transferred from one place to another.
ReplyDeleteBefore seeing this video, I was aware about the similarities between the European system of numbering and the Indian or Sanskrit system of numbering but I didn't know about who had influenced whom and where it had originated.
This video educated me about how the system of having numbers represented by a single number actually originated in India and was taught to the Europeans by the Arabs who had come to India earlier.
The most astonishing fact is that many people in the world do not have this knowledge and still have a stereotypical view of India.
Welcome to BD Somani and welcome to TOK blog - it's great to see so many of our new students sharing their ideas here.
ReplyDeleteThis video was highly educative as well as fascinating. It instills a feeling of pride as well as remorse to see how although India was responsible for many inventions in science and technology it has not received sufficient credit. Nevertheless it was a particularly gripping video.
ReplyDeleteThe video showed us that the Indians were in fact the first to discover the number system as well as many other astrological and scientific discoveries, which have formed the basis of science and technology. However its saddens me that they did not get due credit for many of these brilliant discoveries.
ReplyDeleteThis video was an eye opener to me and it gave me a deep insight about the contributions that ancient India has made in the various fields of life, ranging from astronomy and mathematics to Ayurveda, textile and steel. However, it is a pity that these vast contributions have been forgotten and the fact that the world gives credit to the Arabs for inventing the number system when in fact, the Indians had done so.
ReplyDeleteWhen people think about the history of India, the thoughts that usually cross their minds maybe of the Mughals or the Marathas or perhaps their contributions to the fields of art and architecture. However they would probably not think about India's great contribution to Mathematics, astrology and other fields of science.
ReplyDeleteThe video both fascinates and disappoints me because on one hand it reminds me of India's richness but on the other hand, it shows us how the country isn't given much credit for its work.
This video has shown the immense contribution of India towards science and technology. On one hand, it gives me great pride to see the valuable contributions that India has provided to the world while on the other hand, it saddens me to know that some other country is being credited for something they have not discovered and that our contributions are overlooked
ReplyDeleteThis videos tells us about the various contributions india has made to the rest of the world in fields like mathematics and science. India is not appreciated enough for this and the credit for this has gone to other countries. The discovery of 'zero' by Aryabhatta, an Indian, has resulted in a huge progress in technology, astronomy and every possible field of study across the globe. I personally feel that this video should be watched by people around the world and their opinion about Indians should change.
ReplyDeleteThis video makes me proud to be an Indian. It shows us how India has contributed a lot in the field of mathematics but it is also very disappointing because India isn't given any credit for it. Though it is a very interesting and enlightening video !
ReplyDeleteThis video is very informative and it is important for us to know the contributions of our own country, some of which have been forgotten over time. It is very interesting to know about the various discoveries and inventions of ancient India and how they have influenced modern technology.
ReplyDeleteThe discovery of zero dates back to 9th century AD.
ReplyDeleteCenturies have passed since then, the World has gone through various changes and we've seen ground-breaking discoveries change our lives for the better.
A lot if this can be attributed to India, although it doesn't get the rightful recognition and appreciation to its contributions to various filelds like sciences, arts and mathematics.
This video does an excellent job highlighting the various different ways in which India has contributed to the World.
This video shows us that it was us who invented, created, discovered and explored so many aspects of todays modern physics and mathematics centuries ago. We created the basis of math, the zero. Sadly we have not been given our much needed recognition. Sawai Jai Singh is amongst the thousands of Indians whos names have got lost in the pages of history. I think its videos like these which can help people around the world see how great we were, are, and will be.
ReplyDeleteThis video is very educating and innovating. India has made many contributes to the fields of mathematics, arts, sciences and many more. Sadly India has not received any recognition for her contributions. This video has opened my eyes and has made me even prouder to be a citizen of India.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can have the whole class post here before TOK on Friday morning :)
ReplyDeleteThis video is eyeopening not only for someone who has not been to India but also to us Indians. It is quite sad to see that due to the fact that India has not been given the credit it deserves for it's contributions to the fields of science and mathematics, even Indians are unaware of it. It was rather enthralling to see creations dating back to the 1700's almost accurate to the second.
ReplyDeleteBeing an Indian I my self didn't know that the modern numeric system used globally is derived of the ancient Indian system of numbering and this made me realise that apart from the Arya Bhatta coining zero, India's contribution to science, math and technology is note worthy but unfortunately doesn't get much recognition. I personally believe that our ancestors were more advanced than us after looking at how sturdy their architecture was even though they didn't have the modern machinery we do. I'm really looking forward to learning more in TOK! :)
ReplyDeleteThe video is enlightning innovative and interesting. Untill i saw this video i did not know that the numeric system was derived my the ancient indian number system and the numeric system is now used all around the world. I have lkearnt a lot about our country through this video. The ancient Indians not only contributed to the field of mathematics but also contributed to astronomy, architecture etc. Their innovation of ground water buildings to protect theselves from floods and draught was something i really liked. They also invented cotton, steel and ayurveda. But it is sad that these Indians are not recognized for these creative creations and all the credit of these creations is given to other countries. But this video has really opened my eyes.
ReplyDeleteThe video is very helpful and tells us about the various discoveries and inventions that have taken place in India. It is an extremely valuable piece of information, and as Indians it makes us aware of the numerous contributions that our country has made to the world
ReplyDeleteThe video also gives India credit for the various contributions it has made to the present day world
ReplyDeleteThis video throws light on the beauty of ancient India and how such exquisite features could go unnoticed, both scientifically and historically. I too was unaware of certain aspects of this video, but our country's heritage shouldn't go unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteThis video is one of the few that make a deep impact on you. Seeing how India has contributed so much in the field of science and mathematics really makes us all proud of India - just another reason to hold our head high. I regret that our contributions aren't given due credit. I believe that every Indian should see this documentary. Thank you Mr.Callahan.
ReplyDeleteThis video is an eye-opener for me. Till today I didn't know that the number system used globally has been derived from the ancient Indian numeric system. India's contribution in the fields of science and technology instills a great feeling of pride in me.
ReplyDeleteThis video is a real eye-opener. It shows us how India is not credited for its various contributions to the world and how Science and Math couldn't advance with a few of our contributions. The fact that the Jantar Mantar could read the time close to a few seconds tells us that India isn't just a nation of snake charmers and Bazaars. Great Video! A big thumbs up! :D
ReplyDeleteThis video is very educative and interesting. It brings to light the contributions of India. While instilling a sense of pride, it is also disappoints me because India is not given credit for it's discoveries and inventions in astrology, mathematics, arts and science.
ReplyDeletei found the video very interesting and enlightening. i could never have imagined that india's contribution to science and technology was so significant. it is sad that india wasn't given credit for its contribution till much later.
ReplyDeleteThis video is educational and eye-opening.It tells us about the great contribution made by India in the field of mathematics and in the invention of the zero.
ReplyDeletethis video instills a sense of pride for the achievements of our country. Without them the world as we know would not exist
The world owes a heavy debt to India. India was at one time at the zenith of social, cultural and scientific progress. Ignoring the contributions made by India to the fields of Science and Mathematics would be a gross injustice. The invention of 0 is the single most important invention with regard to modern times for without it there would be no Digital Computers. Thank you for showing us this video.
ReplyDeleteindia has provided the whole world with all its riches and has helped the world grow by its discoveries and inventions ... this video has showed that india's contributions to today's science , astronomy and literature has not been recognized and credited for ...we as the youth of our nation can help this change... and help spread the awareness of indias contributions to todays world...i hope to learn more in TOK ! :)
ReplyDeleteThis video tells us about the numerous contributions India has made in the field of science and technology. It is really informative and it's sad to see that India hadn't been given the credit she deserves.
ReplyDeleteA truly revelatory video. I myself wasn't aware of the specific scientific contributions of the Jantar Mantar and after watching it felt a bit ashamed of myself, being an indian citizen. Now I can see how this wonder has gone unnoticed in the world, considering it was built around 300 years ago it reminds us of how advanced science was even in those times
ReplyDeleteThis video truly made me realize the contributions on Indians towards different fields and its really sad that in today's day and age these contributions have been forgotten. Its remarkable how much difference there would be in the sciences had zero not been discovered. Very educational indeed!
