- This film may disturb some students and adult viewers too.
- It's important as it shows the role of language in Nazi Germany, comparing Jewish people to bacteria and rats.
- It's important to face this issue as the demonisation of the Jews with the language of racial hatred, programmed and conditioned the German people for the mass deportations of their neighbours and the lack of critical thinking about what was really happening to them in the 'resettlement' of Jews in Poland.
- The 'resettlement' was another euphemism for the mass murder in the death camps.
- Those who dehumanise, demonise and despise people because they are different to us, are part of the same process of bigotry that fuels hatred and murder.
- Note how language is brutalised when people become angry and call each other names in war time. In the Rwandan Civil War, the HUTU TRIBE labelled the TUTSI TRIBE 'cockroaches'. Civil war and genocide followed.
- See the film "Hotel Rwanda" to see parallels in the use of language for demonisation.
- We need to see the whole human race as one species, one group we can call 'humanity' made up of different groups but one family.
