  1. The film Agora was set in Roman Egypt. In this movie the idea of extremism and certainty is brought out through the destruction of the library at Alexandria. The idea religion is something that is supposed to unite people and the community although the movie illustrates the violence religion can cause. In this case it is the identity that is felt to be more important and rational. Furthermore this movie is relevant even today as it relates to religious issues in the world.

  4. 'Agora', a film set in ancient Roman Egypt, depicts the discord between Religion and Science. Hypatia's belief that the Sun revolves around the Earth and that the Earth is not the centre of the universe directly conflicted with the religious belief that the everything revolves around the Earth. This idea reinforces the strife between Faith and Reason, a contention that is very prevalent even today.

  6. Agora, set in the Roman Egyptian city Alexandria in the 4th century, is a hagiography that identifies two areas of knowledge - Religion and Science at two opposing ends. Agora questions the superiority of religion over all other aspects and thus brings out the conflicts that are created by the idea that "my god is better than your god."
Feminism and secularism are sub ideas generated by the beliefs of the neo-Platonic philosopher and mathematician, Hypatia. The message the film conveys is that reason unites us while faith divides us.

  7. Agora, a film set in the 4th century, is one that deals with the religious conflicts that occurred in Roman Egyptian city of Alexandria. In the movie, both religion and science are used to dictate the series of events that leads to how the film unfolds. The plot is majorly based on how religious extremism leads to wars and conflict, as it did between the Christians and the Pagans. However, the movie also covers the advancement of science during this era, as the movie's central character, Hypatia, constantly looks for answers through science instead of religion. Therefore, in the movie, Religion and Science are the two major areas of knowledge that are explored

  8. 'Agora' a stimulating drama directed by the Chilean born Alejandro Amenabar is a movie bristling with ideas and topical provocations, which unfurls a world of togas and religious conflict and brings to light the ancient war between science and superstition. The movie takes place in the city of Alexandria in the years surrounding the incalculable loss and the destruction of manuscripts. The Christians and Pagans are both equally blinded by the conviction of their religion and believe those who disagree deserve to die, this certainty of religion portrays that the historical truth, the teachings of Jesus are often are often imperfectly observed by his followers and the discord between Faith and Reason and elucidates the consequences of absolute certainty.
