Ronald Cotton’s wrongful conviction sheds a light on not only whether we can trust eyewitness testimony but also if we can trust ourselves, our memory or our recognition skills. The woman raped here, Jennifer thinks she can say with utmost certainty that Ronald Cotton was her rapist as she had studied his face. However, it was her obstinance that was her downfall. This flaw in the human mind serves to convince us that things like facts will always prevail over things which have space for human error, such as our senses . Further research into the matter shows the gross number of people wrongfully accused due to the eyewitness testimony process. A key reason is that many people confuse the way that memory works, and a good way to think of it is like putting together pieces of a puzzle rather than playing back a video recording(at least for most people). This video teaches us to ask how we can be certain with what we know and to go about our senses in a way where we acknowledge that we cannot rely on them with utmost certainty ,which is both disarming and interesting.
