Nabucco - Hebrew Slaves Chorus - is it possible to appreciate some forms of music even if we don't understand the langauge of the lyrics

  1. I really enjoyed the music in the video above. I think that it is not necessary for music, a work of art, to be bound by language and its limitations. For me, the music in the above video sounded like SCAT SINGING. A painting does not have words all over it, yet it is possible to build your meaning of the painting using your perspective, and imagination and other ways of knowing. Similarly, music may not need to have words that make sense to the listener, and rather one could simply understand the stir in emotions using the syllable choice and the highs and the lows in the song. This gives rise to knowledge questions: To what extent is music bound by language? and How does music without understandable use of language, build value for the knower?
