I found this video very interesting and truly insightful as it allows for introspection and consideration of the workings within large corporate companies and the notion of persisting prosperity amongst elite generations, as supplemented by Gordon Gekko saying, "The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be the survival of the unfittest." It reinforced the successful outcome (spanning over generations) of avaricious corporate figures - leading in eventual gluttony ["steak lunches," "corporate jets and golden parachutes"]. The was a strong Darwinian link between the principles of greed and human evolution, as Gekko said, "Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind." The notion of an upward surge of mankind coexists with the some of the doctrines of Darwinian evolution and hence combines a naturally inclined scientific area of knowledge (biology) with a humanly inclined scientific area of knowledge (psychology), inclusive of greed and the gradual exclusion of morality.
ReplyDeleteThis video gives us an extremely interesting outlook on the evolution of human emotions and behaviour, it provides valuable insight in learning about how the past generations have risked everything to gain returns from America's industrial growth. Gordon Gekko tries explain the reason behind stakeholders making losses and losing a major portion of their industrial growth as deficits. He believes that this is takes place because the "Management has no stake in the company" which reduces their incentives to work hard enough to earn higher profits. Gordon Gekko wishes to convey the aggressive risk taking attitude the older generations had and comparing it to the conservative thoughts of today's generation. This video has made me wonder wether today's generation has the vision to grow? if they are capable enough to take risks that will lead to future growth and success? Gekko educates the audience on the importance of changing our outlook this issue at the same time keeping a progressive mindset intact. This video also talks about different aspects of greed and the benefits it posses. Once again it is greed in all its forms that drives us forward to achieve better/ more. This video is an eye opener for me as it provides me with knowledge about the importance of greed and all the benefits that are directly or indirectly related to it.
